Part 1 - Chapters 1 to 10

At the Casket

Menace stands with his son Dennis gripping him tightly as he steps toward the casket, convinced he is burying his wife. He spent the whole night trying to sleep so he could wake up and find Stevie in the bathroom, humming while she brushes her hair. The grief squeezes at him like a hand around his heart. Kora takes Dennis, kissing his cheeks and rubbing Menace's back, telling him this is private. He wanted a private funeral anyway. He rubs his hands together as he nears the casket, holding back tears, thinking about the life he pictured for them: the two of them old on her island while she paints the sunset, grandkids all around. He always assumed he would leave this earth before she did. He hears someone screaming his name in the distance, but it feels like it's all in his head. His eyes go blurry as he looks down and sees white. The screaming gets closer. He hears Bean scream his name, and this time it's louder.

The Ballroom

Zoya screams Menace's name and watches her brother snap out of his trance, the vein on the side of his neck protruding as he shoots at anything that moves. He crosses the room to where Stevie lies in a pool of blood near the stairs leading up to Dennis, a man's body sprawled across hers. Menace puts a bullet in the head of a man who rushes into the ballroom, then tosses his gun and lets Corleon cover him as he goes to his wife. Zoya stands frozen behind Jett, watching the pain on her brother's face as he snatches the body off her. Stevie jerks and slowly turns over, hands shaking, and stammers that she's alive. He lifts her off the floor and holds her tight, and she squeezes him back. His voice breaks as he says her name into her neck.

Skyler rushes over to her cousin. The men scatter to make sure no one else is lurking. Duke comes down the steps carrying Dennis with a blanket over his head and his gun drawn, and Stevie sobs and clutches her baby when Duke hands him over. Menace blinks fast three times and cracks his neck, and Zoya knows that is a bad sign. He kept Stevie and his son away from this life on purpose, and someone brought it straight to his front porch.

Corleon barks, demanding to know who vetted the staff working that night. Ro says the tall light-skinned man told him everything was cool. That man is Ollie, Zoya's security. Goo vents that he never trusted Ollie, that Ollie always lets her do whatever she wants, and that Kano called and said Ollie was still in the whip while she was in the corner store. Goo looks over at Menace, but Menace isn't there. He is disassociating.

Zoya knows that look well. The first time she remembers Menace disassociating, he beat the mailman, and that was when Angie told them he had to take medicine. Angie guarded Menace, always protective, the only person he tolerated and allowed in. The next time Zoya saw that side of Menace was when he beat her ex-boyfriend, who now has to shit out of a bag for the rest of his life. That sinister look in his eyes scared her, and she wasn't even on the receiving end.

Goo walks over, pulls her into his arms, and holds her face, kissing her lips a few times while looking into her eyes. He asks if she's good, and she nods. He asks quietly if their blessing is good too, and she smiles and says as far as she knows, yes. Holding this man makes her feel safe, guarded, and cared for, a feeling she searched for in every past relationship.

Menace tells Bruster to shut the city down, to leave it dark until he says otherwise. He lifts Stevie's chin and tells her she is going to her island. He tells Greene to make sure everything is set up before Stevie and his son touch down. Greene whispers to Duke in disbelief that he called her by her actual name. Menace tells Duke to fuel the jet and take her and Maverick Jr. Stevie asks if he isn't coming, and Zoya says his main priority is keeping her and Dennis safe.

Goo tells Zoya his main priority is the same, and that she is getting on the jet with Stevie. She starts to protest, and he shuts it down flat, saying her security has already failed her twice and he is not giving Ollie a third chance. She is learning not to piss this man off.

Quasim looks at Blair, and she tells him they can get the kids and she'll tell Elijah they're going on a quick vacation without him. Her voice is nervous, but this is what comes with being Queen Inferno and knowing her husband is Diablo. Capri checks her watch and says Core is holding the calls, but eventually the place will be surrounded. She says she can't come with them yet, but the minute she can, she will. Capone holds Erin's hand and says Gorgeous and the kids are going too. Goo says nothing gets through the gates of the compound. Capone tells Menace he'd rather his wife be with the rest of the women, that this is personal to him too because his own wife ducked right as the shooter pulled the trigger. Erin's voice shakes as she tells Winston to make it home to them, and he kisses her and promises he always makes it home.

Stevie trembles and begs Mavie to just come with them. He strokes her face and tells her that in the moment he thought she was gone, he would have taken the gun and done himself in. He tells her he is her protector, and there are parts of him he never wants her to see. Duke takes Dennis as she hugs him. She asks if he'll come when he's done, and he says of course. She threatens that if he doesn't, she won't give his brothers and sisters their money from the will. He laughs and tells her she's too nice to do something like that. Zoya blurts out, asking if he left her inheritance in Stevie's hands, then hides behind Goo's arm and says no offense when everyone stares. Stevie tells Menace to take his medicine and be careful. He chuckles and says he doesn't need those right now. She says she'll have them waiting for him, and he blinks fast and stretches his neck side to side.

Capri says the cops will come because of the area and Corleon can't hold them off for long, so she'll stay with Navy and play the confused act. Aimee stays with her. Capella kisses his wife and tells her he's on the next block, so call when she's done and he's coming. Aimee and Capri do the IG shake and head toward the front of the venue.

Menace keeps cracking his neck as Stevie kisses his lips and Duke takes her away. He watches his wife and son leave out the back with her security, then looks at Corleon and asks if they're going to the end. Corleon kisses Skyler and Jeffie as they hold hands and head out behind Stevie, then answers that they're going to the fucking end. Menace heads the opposite direction with Corleon walking behind him, and Zoya notices Corleon has the same walk as his older brothers.

Goo pulls Zoya in front of him and tells her to jet and not to piss him off. She worries about clothes and her emotional support cup, which she never travels without. He holds her face and says he'll bring it, then asks if she trusts him. She tells him to bring her brother to that island, that Stevie and Dennis need him, and then lowers her voice to say they need him too. Goo promises he's dragging that man there kicking and screaming, because he has to walk her stubborn ass down the aisle. She laughs and points out there's no ring on her finger. He says that may be true, but she's got that belly full of him, and the ring comes next. She hugs him, kisses him, and heads out the other back door while he walks off with Cappadonna, yelling down the hall that niggas aren't shooting with his wife in there. Knowing this life doesn't mean they aren't scared. There is always the possibility of losing the people they love, a possibility she can't think about right now.

Inez

Rylan tells Inez that if she claims she's stressed and wants to feel good, she should stop being scared. They are at his apartment. Inez hates fighting with her mother, especially when her mother is right about everything she says. Melle was easier when he was younger, but now he has a mind of his own and doesn't listen to anything she says. She screamed at her mother to mind her business, and her mother hit her with a wooden spoon right there in the kitchen, all in front of Melle. That is the reason he doesn't respect her. Her mother treats her like she's his sister instead of his mother.

She tells Rylan that his son's mouth is crazy, then sits beside him and leans in, finally able to relax. She and Rylan have always been on and off, but she has always made room for him. Her entire family hates Rylan and makes it known whenever he's around. She admits she puts up with a lot of his bullshit. She is in love with him,

Part 2 - Chapters 11 to 13

Zoya stands by the jet stairs waiting for the group. Stevie and Dennis are already on board. A black SUV pulls up and Kobe and Syn hop out. Kobe looks rough, hair in a messy bun, no concealer or gloss. He hugs Zoya and says they heard what happened. Havoc and Syn were at his house for brunch when Sim called. Syn says the trip was Kobe's idea. Kobe jokes about a free trip and another jet ride, then asks about accommodations and Caselli money. Zoya laughs despite feeling sick with worry. Syn hugs her and says if there is one thing the men do, it is handle business. Then they will be on their way to their families. Zoya tries to hold on to that.

Blair's red G-wagon pulls up and Blair hops out with the kids. Elijah helps with bags. Blair changed out of her party clothes. A red Corvette whips in behind them. Mina hops out and helps with the kids. Gams exits the passenger side and grabs her bags. She hugs Zoya, stares into her eyes, asks if everything is all good. Zoya says yes. Gams cups her face and lets it go. Staff pull Don's jet from the hangar, which means Navy is on the way. Elijah runs over with bags. Zoya asks if he is ready for vacation. Elijah says he still has schoolwork. Blair called his teacher and the work is being emailed. Zoya reminds him that she and Auntie Capri are attorneys, Uncle Hassan is a doctor, and Uncle Meer is, as Elijah blurts, "a real nigga." Zoya's eyes widen. She asks if Meer told him that. Elijah smirks. Zoya shakes her head because Quameer Inferno has no sense. She tells Elijah they all had to do schoolwork and they finished, so he should get his done and then have fun. Elijah sulks and boards.

Mina carries Zayah in her car seat and asks Zoya if she is alright. Zoya says as good as she can be. Mina says she is not coming, just making sure her grandbabies got there safe so they can meet with Papa and Sim. Blair walks over. Zoya asks what she is not telling her. Blair says she is not coming with them. She will come later with Capri and everyone else. Zoya argues that her husband told her to go. Blair says she does not give a shit what he told her. She is not getting on that plane until her family is with her. She is tired of being the victim. She is his wife and she needs to be at his side. Zoya understands. Blair is Queen Inferno and she is ready to stand in her position. Blair hugs Zoya and promises they will come behind them and then relax. Duke is grabbing the rest of Stevie and Dennis' things. Stevie tells Duke to go with Mavie. Duke says Mavie wants him with Stevie. Stevie says he follows orders from either Mavie or her, and she is telling him as Mrs. Caselli to go with her husband and make sure he is protected. Pull him in when he goes too far. Corleon is his right hand and Duke is his left. She needs her husband. Duke nods and says he heard her. Stevie tells him to be careful and says Navy said Jett is on the way with her. Duke heads to the truck. He does not need directions to Menace. If anyone besides Corleon can find Menace, it is Duke.

Mina comes down the steps and Blair goes onto the jet to kiss her kids goodbye. Zoya imagines how sad Blair is to send them off and stay behind. A Maybach truck and a Bentley truck drive across the runway. Cappadonna hops out of the Maybach and Capone gets out of the Bentley. Erin and Alaia get out, with Jean in the back seat of the Maybach. Staff rush to grab their bags. Cappadonna kisses his wife on the lips a bunch of times and holds her face while staring into her eyes. She is his entire world. Promise gets out of the back of the car with Jean's help, while the twins run behind her. Erin unloads Cooper, Cee-Cee, and Rory. Zoya watches in horror at all the kids playing before getting on the jet. A full flight with children and babies sounds like a nightmare to her. Promise heads toward Zoya and Zoya almost wants to hide. Promise is tough and she secretly scares Zoya. Zoya says hello. Promise struggles to climb the steps. When Zoya tries to help, Promise gives her a look that could kill and says she does it herself. Alaia comes over and jokes that Zoya should not have kids. Zoya mutters, "Too late." Alaia nearly snaps her neck to look at her. She says Alhamdulillah and starts to celebrate. Zoya shushes her. Alaia heard her because she is a mother of three and a grand quack. Zoya pleads that they have not told anyone. Goo wants to tell his mother before anyone and Zoya wants to break the news to Menace. Alaia says it is not her business to tell. She is happy for Zoya. She warns Zoya never to ball her lips up again or she will drop kick her. Capp carries the boys over. He tells them to give Daddy a kiss and behave. Captain tells his father he needs to have that conversation with his daughter. Alaia looks at Capp with a worried look. Capp kisses her cheek and tells her Daddy always comes home. She hugs him and tells him to call as soon as they land.

Mina stays with Zoya. Zoya admits she is worried about Blair. Mina says Blair is in that range more than Mina and Capri combined. It feels like she has something to prove and Mina does not blame her. Quasim takes her, or she goes alone. Blair even got the razor down. Mina laughs to herself. Zoya says Blair was ducking in the back of cars. Mina says now she is airing them out. Blair is Queen. A Queen is not crowned the moment the world sees her. Blair was crowned the moment she finally saw herself. Zoya smiles and becomes emotional. She says she worries about Blair. Mina says she does not. She says when she was in Blair's position, every God, including her King, held her down. Blair is her daughter and she is ready. She is Queen Inferno. Blair comes out at the same time they are talking about her. Zoya watches Blair walk toward them. Blair has always been the one who comes running, who knows when something is wrong with Zoya or Capri. She was not handed her crown because she married Quasim. She earned it through every wound, every scar, and all the pain she endured. She healed herself and helped a grieving man learn to love again while demanding what she required. When she lifted her head through the flames, she became Blair Inferno. Blair asks Mina if she is ready. Mina says Capri just finished talking to the cops. Mina tells Zoya her husband is going to have a fit. Blair says he will live. She hugs Zoya and tells her to call as soon as they land. Blair walks to her truck and Mina heads to her car. Mina waits until Blair whips around and gets in front before pulling off behind her. Capone and Cappadonna finish their goodbyes, get into their whips, and pull behind them. As they leave, cars enter and head toward Don's jet. Zoya takes a deep breath and boards, knowing this will be a long flight. She overhears Stevie talking to Kobe about the island and the villas. She looks at the pilot, who also knows this will be a long flight. She asks if he wants some scotch. His cheeks turn red and Jean chokes on her water. Zoya gets a text from Goo. Sharon is going to fly with Navy and her people. Zoya texts back to remember what she said. Goo replies that he thinks he is not going to see his seed come into the world. Fuck you mean. Zoya smiles and puts her phone on airplane mode.

Won Island

Zoya's dreams haunt her. The only time her mind is silenced is when she is with Goo. Whenever they get into bed, she buries herself in his arms, he kisses the top of her head, and she falls asleep. Her mind is silenced and her dreams are pleasant. Goo is a good man. Everything about him is good and it pains Zoya that people see something different. One look at his rap sheet and someone would judge. They would wonder why a high-powered defense attorney would lower her standards to be with a criminal. Little do they know, Goo is better than her. She feels she does not deserve him, but he still shows up and shows her that maybe she does deserve a love like the one he wants to give her. Even now, it is hard for her to come to terms that she deserves someone like Goo. She cuddles on the balcony and stares out at the water as it crashes onto the white sand. Won Island is Stevie's wedding gift that she picked out when she married Menace. She had a choice of nearly everything and it was like pulling teeth to get her to choose.

Part 3 - Chapters 14 to 18

Inez

Inez hears the front door slam and Ramelle fling his backpack into a kitchen chair. Cabinets open and close as he complains he's starving. In the bathroom, she shoves her medicine into a nylon bag before he can see. Moving in with Rylan comes with learning curves. They made a child together but never live together. Rylan doesn't know how to parent because he was always in and out of Melle's life. Her mother and aunt help raise Ramelle so she can finish school. Rylan shows up for birthday parties with gifts to play the good father, and she allows it because she wants her son to have his father around. She learned nagging keeps Rylan away, so she avoids it. Even when new women step forward with his kids, she stays quiet and keeps the peace instead of fighting back.

Inez puts the bag under the sink and comes out as Ramelle walks up the hallway. Her boy isn't a little boy anymore. He talks like Goo and Ken, moves like them, looks up to them. She knows the life they're into, but they make those moves for family. Melle never wanted for anything because they made sure of it. Ramelle asks if she's good. She needs this fix desperately. She slept all day and this was the only time she forced herself up to feel good before Rylan came home. This was all Rylan had left because he claimed money was low and he owed somebody. Rylan always lies about owing somebody. Her mother always said the most dangerous man was a good liar.

Inez hates asking her cousins or mom for money because she knows how they feel. She doesn't want to hear them complain about her choosing Rylan when she could have come home. This is their home. She needs them to see she's grown and a mother. This was best for her and Ramelle. He needed to see his mother living on her own. Her mother keeps crossing lines from grandmother to trying to be his mother. Whenever she asks for money, it comes with a lecture that starts with Rylan. When money is low, Rylan leaves for weeks, leaving her to deal with the landlord because he knows she'll find a way. She refuses to have her baby on the streets, and she isn't going back to her mama's house.

Inez snaps at Ramelle that she's tired and the first thing he does is holler about food, then pushes past him to her bedroom. He follows. She doesn't miss his look when he enters. He asks why they never have food. Ramelle is like his older cousins. He idolizes them and they taught him everything. Her boy isn't shy or meek. If he feels a way, you'll hear about it. She asks if he's going to his Granny's. He says tomorrow, that she wants help cleaning ceiling fans and the glasses in the China cabinet. Inez mocks her mother's voice saying "Di tings dem weh she treasure di most." Ramelle suggests she come and stay the weekend because Gran gets lonely. Inez snaps that she has her sister and pulls the covers over herself because she's cold. The boy ruined what she was about to do, and now she has to pray Rylan doesn't come home early so she can kill the rest without sharing.

Ramelle tells her she's always in this room sleep and sick, and they know what sick means. Inez challenges him. He waves her off and says all she wants is to lay here and wait for him. Inez corrects him that Rylan is his father and he needs to show respect. Ramelle says they're better off without him, that all he does is leave when money is gone, noting how he leaves before rent is due and comes back once it's paid. Inez insists they hold each other down. Ramelle tells her she sounds foolish. Inez points at him, warning him to watch his mouth. He's disappointed in her, and she can see it. She wants to be better and tried. Every time she finds strength to stay off and is doing better, Rylan comes in and pulls her back under. Life used to be brighter. She remembers going out with friends and having a relationship with her son. Now she's confined to this apartment, only going between bathroom and bedroom. She feels sucked into a hole she can't climb out of.

Ramelle asks if he can go to school from Gran's. Inez thought he said tomorrow. He shrugs and says he kind of wants to be there now. She promised herself she'd never deny Ramelle time with family. He's old enough to make it there alone, so she allows it. She asks if he has basketball practice. He says uh huh and he'll see if Ken can drive him. Inez peeks from under the blanket and stares at her baby. He's becoming a young man. Responsible, gets good grades, loves basketball, wants more out of life than she provided. Guilt consumes her. When she was handed gold on a platter from her cousin, she settled for whatever Rylan gave her instead. This isn't the life they were supposed to live. She tells Ramelle to be safe and that she loves him. He says he loves her too and leaves. She has to get herself together for her boy.

Zoya

Zoya overhears Stevie in the sunroom rocking Dennis while talking to Kobe and Syn. Stevie claims she could have taken six shots and lived. Zoya takes her nephew, who resists the chokehold Stevie has him in. Stevie insists she could have, that could have being the keyword. When it happened she didn't know what to do and went to grab her gun. Zoya laughs and calls Stevie out for making things up, telling her she doesn't own a gun. Stevie concedes she has a full room dedicated to Mavie's guns and playfully sticks her tongue out.

Zoya thinks they're all worried about what's happening back home. The dark circles around Stevie's eyes show she isn't sleeping. Dennis resists Zoya rocking him, telling her he misses his father too. When Stevie and Menace reveal they're having a baby, Zoya expects Menace to be absent in the nurturing sense. She is proven wrong each time she witnesses him conquer fatherhood. Kobe shakes his iced coffee and asks Stevie if she's been sleeping. Stevie says no. Skyler saunters in and sits on the opposite side of the couch, saying she's gotten a few hours. Skyler calls Stevie out, saying she's had none and sits by her phone waiting for Duke to update her, and even Dennis is up with her. Stevie hangs her head and admits it's hard. She went so long not having a person and was fine. Now that she has Mavie, it's hard to sleep without him.

Syn questions what Stevie means. Zoya used to think it was strange too, until she met Gerald Wraithe. She understands the dark circles Stevie has because she probably has them too. It's hard to sleep without Goo beside her, his arms wrapped around her, his lips on her head as she melts into him. As her eyes become heavy, she hears him saying how grateful he is for her, thanking Allah for giving him the chance to love her the way she needs. Even though she isn't showing, she wants his hands on her stomach as they talk about their baby. She's terrified because she wants this baby more than anything, and it's here. This baby didn't leave. She's afraid she might wake up and this would all be a sick dream.

Stevie clears her throat and says most nights, Mavie has to lay his head on her stomach to sleep. Her son misses him too. Every night, Mavie forces her to take alone time and paint in the studio. He handles Dennis's bath time, reads him books, rocks him to sleep. He tells him all the ways he'd kill someone if they touched a hair on his head. Stevie smiles and rubs her arms. Zoya is shocked that Menace does bath time every night. Stevie nods proudly, saying every single night. When he's away for work, he calls during bath time so Dennis can hear his voice. The little boy lights up. Zoya mutters she never knew that. Kobe asks which part, the killing people or how Menace can't keep his hands off his wife. Stevie smiles and says so romantic. Zoya laughs because it's hilarious when people meet Stevie and Menace. Once they do, they quickly realize why they should stay away.

Kobe turns to Zoya, asking how she's feeling. Zoya stammers, asking what he means, that she isn't a mom. Everyone stares confused. Kobe says he's asking how she is, what she has going on. Zoya blurts that since he screamed it to the world, she's pregnant. She's tired of keeping this secret and pretending the breakfast made every morning doesn't make her sick. She let that man trap her willingly. Kobe gasps and says city girls down a thousand points. Syn pinches him. Kobe continues that they were supposed to be the single fine ones, rich auntie and uncle, and she went and did this. Despite the worry on her face, Stevie smiles genuinely. Zoya can tell she's happy for her. Stevie says she stopped being scared and told him. Zoya confirms. Stevie asks if it was the scare that made her finally say it. Zoya nods, admitting she couldn't hold it in

Part 4 - Chapters 19 to 20

Menace stands in his office being fitted for a suit, but his mind is far from the measurements. He cycles through the weight of his past: losing his parents to murder, identifying their bodies, and the way he stopped living for himself and started living for his siblings. He built his life around curating theirs—Kora into law school, Zoya through college, Landon across his graduation stage. He shaped their careers, guided Don into cybersecurity under Corleon, watched Zoya become a courtroom shark. It was never about control, as Bean accused; it was about making sure they would be taken care of if he died. And he fully expected to die. Then Stevie Raye robbed him, and everything shifted.

Don tells him Luci has landed and is en route. Menace reflects on Lucipher Caselli, his cousin from his mother's side, kept hidden from nearly everyone except Kora. His grandmother had a child at thirteen, a son named Cyrus, sent to New York and raised as a distant relative. Cyrus built Caselli Imports, and his son Lazarus, known as Lucipher, took over after Cyrus died of cancer. When Luci walked into a Case House property cool under Duke's gun, Menace let him in. They looked like family. Luci pledged loyalty, but Menace watches him closely because trust has to be earned and reevaluated.

The tailor pulls too tight, and Menace snaps. Duke jokes about daddy weight, and Menace shifts to Stevie, his mind drifting to thoughts of her. Don sends the tailor away. Menace stares at the Lego sets Stevie built for him and the ache of missing her is physical. Don tries to assure him the shooting was not his fault, but Menace barks back that it does not matter. He promised Stevie she would never experience that kind of fear again, and he failed. She was shaking, terrified. The only way he knows to cope is to make someone pay. Every second away from Stevie and his son is a second someone owes him agony.

The scene shifts to a gathering in Menace's home. Cappadonna claims he used to be a social worker, and everyone disputes it. Capone, Quameer, and others are there because Ghost and Rahmeek insisted they plan strategically. Menace is antsy, deliberately not calling Stevie because he cannot hear her voice without folding. Duke has been checking on her. Capri and Blair walk in, and Menace needles Blair about being homeless. Quasim tries to tell Blair she should be home with their kids, but she stands her ground, snatches his gun, unloads it, and drops bullets onto Menace's Persian rug. An older woman, Mina, walks in and schools Quasim on treating his wife like she is helpless.

Bruster arrives with his laptop and explains the invite system to the gala has changed, so they cannot find the location. Blair has agreed to be invited as a guest of the target, and Quasim supports her. Mina will return to the freak lounge to bump into the man again, posing as someone in imports, to get an invite. Their plan is to find the location and then handle things. The funeral will still happen. Menace says the man does not get to rest peacefully, and a voice from behind agrees. Luci Caselli walks down Menace's stairs, having climbed to the second floor with Duke's permission. Everyone has hands on their guns until Don stands, daps him up, and introduces him as their cousin, Luci.

The narrator stands and daps Luci, making introductions. He asks if everybody is ready to die. Cappadonna puts his gun on his lap. Capri says she has babies waiting on his private island and never misses her target. Aimee daps Capri up and says she has her left always. Quameer jokes he is good for nothing. His wife tells him he always has Sim's right. She kisses him and crosses the room, saying she has meetings across the city despite the lights being off. Quameer follows her out. The narrator looks to Bruster, who has everything in motion. He orders his sister put on a jet out of town. He tells Don to let Kora know the orders are coming from Zoo. Don says heard you and heads for the foyer.

The narrator's mind turns to Boobie. He misses his wife and wants to be with his baby. Boobie is his home and carries the missing piece they both needed. He is nervous to become a father because he never witnessed it as a child. His mother raised two boys and felt she failed when he went to prison and Khaos followed.
