These questions assume everyone has finished the book and contain spoilers, including the ending.
Some books are made for book clubs, and The Housewife is one of them. It pulls you into Jodie's complicated world and asks hard questions about truth, justice, and the stories we tell ourselves. The twists are fun to unpack, but the real gold is in the characters. You'll find yourself arguing over whether Jodie is a hero, a villain, or something in between.
Use these questions as a starting point, not a checklist. Some are about specific moments, others zoom out to themes and choices. Let everyone grab the one that got under their skin. There are no right answers, just better conversations. Keep an open mind, and be ready to change your opinion by the end.
Jodie's Choices and Masks
- 1.Did you agree with Jodie's choice to plant a glass shard in Meredith's birthday cake, even though she removed it before anyone was hurt? What did that moment reveal about her state of mind?
- 2.Jodie marries Roy under a false identity to investigate her sister's death. Do you think she was ever genuinely in love with him, or was the entire marriage a performance?
- 3.Jodie says women rarely shoot themselves in the face because they don't want to ruin their beauty. How does that observation tie into the book's themes of appearance, face, and punishment?
- 4.After Erin dies, Jodie cleans up the scene and lets Roy take suspicion. Did you think she was justified in protecting herself, or was this the moment she crossed a line?
Roy, Marie, and the Marriage
- 5.When Roy catches Jodie with the rifle, she lies and says she was cleaning it. Did you believe Roy accepted that explanation, or was he already suspicious of her?

- 10.Mikey refuses to lie for Jodie, yet at trial he points at Roy. What do you think motivated his testimony—was it loyalty to Deborah, or something else?
- 11.If the book were told from Marie's perspective instead of Jodie's, how do you think Marie would justify her actions toward Deborah and Jodie?
Justice and Endings
- 12.Jodie tells the police a version of events that blames Roy, and she testifies against him at trial. Did her lie make you sympathize with her less, even though Roy was convicted of Marie's and Deborah's murders?
- 13.Jodie kills her sister's abuser in a hit-and-run and then lets Beau take the blame. Do you think the book wants us to see that as an act of justice or as another example of Jodie's willingness to destroy lives?
