How to Ruin a Wedding Book Club Questions

These questions assume everyone has finished the book and contain spoilers, including the ending.
This novel is packed with awkward weddings, mistaken identities, and a heroine whose good intentions keep colliding with bad decisions. That makes it ideal for book clubs: there is no easy answer about who to root for, and every twist gives you something new to argue about. These questions are designed to get past simple likes and dislikes and into the messy emotional logic behind the characters' choices.
Use them however fits your group. You can work through them in order, pick a theme that grabs you, or assign a few questions to different readers. Let the conversation wander, but return to the moments that made you uncomfortable. Those are the ones worth unpacking.
Lucy's Motivations and Messy Growth
- 1.Lucy's first job ends with a silent recording of James and Sammy and an eviction notice; how did that double failure shape her decision to accept Anders's fake-girlfriend offer?
- 2.Did you agree with Lucy's choice to take the job to ruin Valerie's wedding even after she had just wrecked the wrong wedding and been publicly humiliated by Jennie?
- 3.How does Lucy's grief over her parents—the Wall of Memories, her dad's baseball glove, her mom's rice pot—explain her panic about losing the apartment and her attachment to buying Save a Paw?
- 4.Taina keeps trying to help Lucy—offering her a home, investment money, and even pretending to be a psychic. Why does Lucy keep pushing Taina away, and did you think Taina was right to confront her on the dock?
