Leo Marsden

Antagonist

Leo Marsden is the man who has been posing as Bryan, the newer guide on the rafting trip. He hides his expert river skills behind an inept 'Flip-Flop' persona while actually being the Camas Creek survivor who, according to the true-crime theory Allie uncovers, committed the original massacre and changed his name. He sabotages the trip, murders guides and guests, strings razor wire across Anvil Falls, and hunts the surviving women because he wants credit for his crimes.

Arc: Leo is revealed as Bryan and chases the survivors down the river, taunting them and setting traps. He is tricked by the dummy raft, confronted at Splinter Ridge, knocked off balance by Macy, and drowned by Kaia, Macy, and Pam.

Parker is Kaia's late husband, an outdoorsman and explorer who died after becoming trapped in the cave called Cookie Dough. He appears only in memory, dreams, Kaia's imagination, and as a voice she hears during life-threatening moments. Before his death he promised to come back as a hawk and left a letter for Kaia saying she is his person.

Arc: Though dead before the story begins, Parker changes from a source of unbearable grief into a guiding presence that helps Kaia survive. His voice warns her about the razor wire, tells her not to give up, and gives her the 'let the paddles do the work' message that becomes the decoy plan.

Arc: Allie begins as an obsessive true-crime fan whose fears are dismissed, then struggles with guilt for not recognizing Bryan earlier. She risks herself as Kaia's decoy-raft partner and is shot by Leo's last arrow, but survives and plans in-vitro treatment in the epilogue.
