The Daddy's Girl Book Club Questions

These questions assume everyone has finished the book and contain spoilers, including the ending.
Some books give a discussion group one big topic. This one gives many. The Daddy's Girl mixes forbidden love, family secrets, friendship, and a central age gap that will make readers question their own comfort zones. It is messy in the best way. You probably will not agree with each other, and that is the point.
Use the questions to open up conversations, not to march through them. Skip around if a topic sparks something. These questions invite people to talk about choices they would or would not make, and why. There are no clean answers here. Let each person explain their read of the characters, and see if anyone changes their mind by the end.
The Premise and Family Secrets
- 1.Ronan Kade's email leaves L'Amour to all six of the younger generation, and Jack's one-year 'Legacy' proposal convinces them to try. Did you believe that this group of heirs could actually run the club together, or was their agreement the least believable part of the setup for you?
- 2.Julian catches Matis in bed with Amelia, interrogates him, makes sure Amelia was never coerced, and then agrees to keep the secret from their father. Did you agree with Julian's choice to stay quiet, or should he have told Ronan immediately?
- 3.Ronan reacts by slamming Matis against the wall, telling him to take the London job, and demanding he leave Amelia alone. Did Ronan's anger feel justified given that Matis is his best friend and his daughter's godfather, or did he overstep Amelia's right to choose?
- 4.When Ronan finally tells Amelia he will always be proud of her and hugs Matis, did you find his reconciliation believable, or did his anger and hurt fade too quickly for the magnitude of the betrayal?
Age, Power, and the Taboo
- 5.Matis is Amelia's godfather, her father's best friend, and nearly three decades older. Did you feel the book honestly grappled with the power imbalance and betrayal this relationship involves, or was the taboo mostly treated as romantic tension?
- 6.Matis spends much of the book torn between self-denial and longing, telling Amelia he aches for her and then trying to push her toward Jacob. Did his repeated push-pull behavior ring true for a man tormented by guilt, or did it start to feel frustrating rather than romantic?
- 7.Matis's visits to his mother Estelle, who has dementia and sometimes doesn't recognize him, add another layer to his fear of aging and loneliness. How did this mother-son thread affect your view of Matis as a potential partner for Amelia?
Amelia's Agency and Perspective
- 8.Amelia admits to Freya that she hopes helping Matis set up dating profiles will force her to get over him. Did you agree with her strategy, or did you think she was only prolonging her heartbreak?
- 9.Amelia says watching Matis with Laura makes her feel 'in control,' and later she asks Geo to kiss and pleasure Matis while she watches. Did you find this shift from voyeurism as hiding to voyeurism as trust and liberation convincing?
- 10.Amelia has creative ambitions as a designer, from joining the incubator to staging her fashion show and eventually running Stella Moon. Did you think the ending balanced her romance with Matis and her career, or did the relationship ultimately overshadow her professional dreams?
- 11.At the family dinner, Matis proposes a trade: Amelia teaches him about dating apps and he teaches her what to look for in a boyfriend. Looking back, did you see this arrangement as an honest attempt to move on, or as an excuse for both of them to stay close?
Matis's Transformation and the Ending
- 12.During Matis's date with Laura in the voyeur room, he accidentally says Amelia's name. Did you read that as the moment Matis finally understood his feelings for Amelia, or as an impulsive mistake he would have dismissed if Amelia hadn't overheard it?
- 13.Near the end, Matis gives up the London club and proposes under the Eiffel Tower, saying his new dream is 'us.' Did you believe this was a genuine character arc from the lonely man who feared it was too late, or did it feel rushed?
- 14.Amelia asks Matis not to pull out so they can 'let fate decide,' and the epilogue shows her pregnant years later. Did you agree with that decision, or did it seem reckless given the complications already straining their relationship?
- 15.The epilogue shows Matis letting Stella and Maisie put makeup on him and dancing with Amelia to 'La Vie en Rose' in their quiet kitchen. Did this domestic ending feel earned after all the secrecy and family conflict, or did you want a different kind of resolution?
