This novel gives a book club plenty to unpack: messy family loyalty, protection that can look like control, love shaped by trauma, secrets that refuse to stay buried, and questions about law, street code, and who gets to decide what safety means. The characters make choices that are hard to defend and hard to dismiss, which is exactly what makes the conversation interesting.
Use these questions to guide a relaxed discussion, not a quiz. You can move through them in order, let the group pick what sparks the most debate, or focus on one topic at a time. There are no right answers here, only reactions, disagreements, and the parts of the story that stick with you.
Family, Protection, and Control
- 1.When Corleon brings pizza and Maverick promises Zoya they will own a pizza shop and never depend on anyone again, how does that early promise shape Maverick/Menace's later need to control and protect his siblings?
