These questions assume everyone has finished the book and contain spoilers, including the ending.
Exit Party gives book clubs plenty to untangle: doubles, disappearing acts, art, memory, and the choices people make when reality starts to feel unstable. The questions below are designed to spark conversation rather than quiz anyone, so pick a few that interest your group or work through them in order.
You do not need to agree on what actually happened. In fact, the best discussions often come from comparing theories, noticing where characters surprise you, and sitting with the unresolved parts together.
Doubles, Identity, and Other Worlds
- 1.When Kareem walks through his kitchen doorway during the spring 2031 party and meets his own double, how did that revelation change your understanding of the earlier disappearances of Saraya and Nico?
- 2.The novel presents Nico as Gloria's double with a different haircut, glasses, and no scar; what does Nico's insistence that she is not Gloria but knows who Ari means reveal about the limits of identity in the story?
- 3.James argues that Kareem's party was 'also a door' and that another Gloria and Saraya entered while Kareem disappeared; did you find his theory convincing by the end, or did the novel leave the doubling deliberately unresolved?
- 4.Ibari's childhood notebooks are marked TRUE DILIGENCE, and the other Kareem Fayed describes Ari as having a TRUE DILIGENCE tattoo on her left wrist; what did you make of this entanglement between Ibari and her other-world double?
Art, Ownership, and What Objects Carry

- 11.Ari lets Felix leave for his morning walk in Greece despite her premonition that he will die; were you able to sympathize with that choice, and how did it shape your view of her guilt afterward?
- 12.Kareem agrees to trade places with his double, care for Marlowe and Samir, and become their father; how did his arc from party host to caretaker affect your reading of the novel's themes about chosen family and keeping it together?
- 13.Nico takes part in the teleportation experiment to spirit dissidents away to safety and leaves her children behind, while Saraya comes through and ends up in a psych ward; how does the novel ask us to judge Nico's sacrifice and its consequences?
Endings, Violence, and Chaos
- 14.Ari dies in Nico's guest bedroom and then follows Eddie onto a diving board that emerges from the Swan Dive painting; did you read that ending as literal death, a crossing into another reality, or something else?
