A Court of Silver Flames Book Club Questions
by Sarah J. Maas

These questions assume everyone has finished the book and contain spoilers, including the ending.
ACOSF gives book clubs plenty to argue about: trauma, recovery, power, consent, loyalty, and the messy ways people try to love each other. Nesta is prickly and complicated, so your group will likely split over whether her choices are self-destructive, brave, or both. Cassian, the Valkyries, and the Inner Circle add even more layers.
Use these questions however fits your group. Pick a few that spark debate, go in order, or let each person choose one that hit hardest. There are no right answers here, just good conversation. Keep snacks nearby and be ready to defend your favorite character.
Nesta, Cassian, and the Terms of Trust
- 1.Cassian lies and tells Nesta the training plan was his idea, and he deliberately keeps his mouth shut during the study confrontation. What does that small deception reveal about the way Cassian handles Nesta, and does it help or hurt their trust?
- 2.The bargain — one hour of training for one favor of whatever size, sealed with the eight-pointed star on Cassian's spine — ends up being the thing Nesta uses to order him away at the quay. Did you agree with her decision to call in that favor, and what did it cost her?
- 3.'Just sex, right?' and 'Thanks for the ride, Nes' — Cassian's exit after their first nights together clearly lands as a punishment to Nesta even as she claims the terms were hers. Who do you think was protecting themselves more in that arrangement?
- 4.Cassian tells Eris he might be a good male but is too much of a coward to act like one, and Nesta refuses to call Cassian 'mate' because the word would strip away the last of her humanity. Which of these two refusals did you find more understandable, and which more frustrating?
Trauma, Truth, and Protection
- 5.Nesta keeps her stolen Cauldron power locked inside and drowns the trauma of the Cauldron, her father's death, and the war in wine, sex, and music — did Feyre's intervention (condemning the apartment, forcing the move to the House of Wind and the library) feel like an act of love to you, or an act of control?
- 6.Amren and Rhys vote to keep from Nesta the truth that she unknowingly Made three magic blades, and Rhys hides from Feyre that the winged baby may kill her in labor. Were those protective choices defensible, or were they betrayals — and is there a difference between the two cases?
- 7.Nesta tells Feyre the truth about the Illyrian wings and the fatal risk of the birth, knowing it will devastate her sister. Did you agree with Nesta's choice to tell her, or did you think she was lashing out?
- 8.At the mountain lake, Nesta finally says 'I let him die' about her father and admits she cannot stand fires because cracking logs sound like his neck breaking. What did that confession reveal that all the training and the library work could not?
Power, Temptation, and Sacrifice
- 9.Nesta puts on the Mask in the Bog of Oorid and commands the dead to tear the kelpie apart, then later says the void of wearing it was 'so seductive, so freeing' that it had to be destroyed. Was taking the Mask the right call in the moment, and what does her reaction to it say about the danger of her power?
- 10.Lanthys offers Nesta a vision of ruling with him, the Wild Hunt resurrected, and palaces of magic — and she rejects it the moment she sees the Crown on his head. What does that moment say about what Nesta actually wants, given how often she is accused of wanting power?
- 11.Nesta uses the twenty-sixth string of the Harp to stop Time, bargains with the Cauldron to give back the power she took, and saves Feyre, Rhys, and Nyx. Did giving up her power feel like a satisfying resolution to her arc, or did you want her to keep it — and what do you make of the power she says remains?
The Valkyries, Growth, and Public Choices
- 12.Gwyn's revelations about the Sangravah attack, her twin sister Catrin, and the Invoking Stone reframe the library priestesses entirely. How did learning her story change how you read her decision to sign up for training and later to take the dangerous path up Ramiel?
- 13.The Hewn City Solstice dance with Eris — spinning solo, smiling with wild joy, then cutting in with Cassian and finally waltzing with Azriel — is one of the book's biggest set pieces. What did the dance accomplish politically, and what did it show about how far Nesta has come?
- 14.Nesta runs the House stairs all the way to Velaris, then chooses to climb back up to Starfall rather than walk into the city. How significant was that choice compared to her earlier fall on the ten thousand steps, and did it feel earned to you?
- 15.The Blood Rite: Emerie and Gwyn reach the sacred stone while Nesta stays behind at the Pass of Enalius and says she is repaying them 'for being my friends.' Did the Valkyries' win feel like a genuine payoff, and what did you make of Balthazar's brief help in the cave?
